Amplify Arts

 

Amplify Arts is a non-profit created to give local artists in the Omaha area a space for creative thought, exchange of ideas, and teaching of techniques. By providing studio and gallery space as well as workshops, Amplify Arts has grown, needing a larger more adequate space to provide for the surrounding community while promoting growth of the organization.

Being that this project was presented to volunteers/artists at Amplify Arts the aesthetic of the project I chose to use was more artistic than that of traditional architectural boards. This was done to create a better connection and understanding of the proposal for the clients.

Situated in the Little Bohemian neighborhood of Omaha, this proposal for Amplify Arts remains connected to the surrounding restaurants, bars, and shops via the existing green space to the west of the building. The green space to the east of the building creates a buffer between the architecture and the homes to not take away from the value of the backyards of the homes.

From the buffer/green space above people descend into the architecture through the garden entering the first gallery before moving towards the suspended black box theater and remaining program.

The studio spaces are separated from other programs such as events and galleries to take place uninterrupted. Without public engagement through events like weddings, and fundraisers, the art and architecture would not reach its full potential. From t

From the second floor the black box theater is still viewable as it imposes its presence throughout the architecture and surrounding site.

At night the smaller light cube that transfers light to the gallery below lights up the garden promoting safe use of the space during all hours.

With a black box theater being a focal point throughout the building it needed to have the same presence at night. The garden light cube creates contrast making the black box stand out even at night.
